My thoughts on #RevolutionNow
I like Sowore as a person but I have never been a political fan of Sowore and the rest of the 'third force'. Not because I dislike the rhetoric they often touted;
"A new Nigeria", "100k Minimum wage", Manna from heaven …
It sounds appealing but I am not suckered by it for one simple reason. Their actions doesn't match their words. The main problem most Nigerians have with the 'old guard' is that they never let the public good outweigh their selfish needs. That is exactly what caused the third force to fail in the 2019 elections. We had a bunch of people who separately recognised that they stood no chance of winning the Presidency and so decided to form a coalition and front one candidate (The PACT agreement). However, the likes of Sowore and the rest couldn’t let their ego and selfish interests die thus causing the breakdown of the agreement leading to them running separately. We are all too familiar with the results of that action; all of them combined got less 100k votes of the over 26 million cast. What a terrible waste of resources. I guess we can appreciate them for priming the Nigerian consciousness to a new breed of politicians.
I cannot for the life of me take part in a revelation led by such a man and neither should you. Not only is this revelation not birth from the collective frustrations of the populace. It is a revolution led by an egotistical loser who has refused to accept defeat.
It is as it should be; A Failed Revolution.
That being said, I must in the interest of prosperity declare that I categorically stand against the arrest and detention of Swore by the DSS. This Gestapo move is one from an era far gone! It is unconstitutional and should never have happened. Let me borrow from the words of a highly qualified Learned colleague.
"I have read the demands of the organisers of this protest and I cannot identify any aspect of it that can be classified as terrorism or treasonable"
SAN Femi Falana.
Let us all remember that the right to protest is guaranteed under our constitution. It is a core part of our democracy and should be safe guarded by us all. Lets even be real with ourselves, did Sowore actually pose a threat to the stability of this country? Not at all because if he couldn’t motivate up to 30 thousand Nigerians to use their PVC to vote for him. What are the chances that he will be able to make Nigerians enter the streets and revolt? None. If we didn’t do the less risky thing of voting for this man why would we let him lead us to overthrow our Government?
In closing, I stand firmly against the #RevolutionNow but stand firmly for the #Freesowore movement. You should too because excesses of government often start with the obviously guilty ones, then it gets to the slightly guilty ones, followed by those who's guilt is debatable and finally it gets to the innocents. That's you, That's me, That's your wife, Your children, Everyone!
I have always said that the problem with Nigerians is that we don't care enough when the injustice and the suffering affects other people. We stay quiet hoping it wouldn't get to us. The truth is it will get to all of us! in one way or another, this year or the next. We All Pay the price for participation or for our silence.
